What Do Freemasons Do Exactly?
The organizations which make up the family of Freemasonry provide support for many charities. It is estimated that throughout the United States, Masons contribute in excess of $2,000,000 per day to a wide variety of charities. This charitable support is sometimes visible and at other times not. Celestial Lodge is a very active lodge both on the philanthropic work that we do as well as within our tightly knit unit.
Members of Celestial Lodge participate in many events and projects throughout the year. Although no commitment of this type is ever required by any one person within the Lodge, members usually are more than willing and excited to help.
A great example of what we do is the Blood Drive that we host several times per year in conjunction with the Dana Farber Blood Mobile. Members of the lodge donate their time and efforts to this wonderful cause. Members will assist in checking in people from the community who come to give blood, be there to help answer questions from blood donors, setting up tables and chairs, and also cooking breakfast. A complimentary breakfast is supplied to anyone who donates blood.
Members of Celestial also attend regular stated communications (meetings) on a monthly basis from September – June. Celestial Lodge does not meet July-August. Although coming to every meeting by the members of the lodge is never required, most members will enjoy coming to the monthly meeting to engage in spirited conversation, enjoy each other’s company, hear about the current status of the lodge, vote on new members and partake in wonderfully catered meals after the meeting. Celestial Lodge is an organization that works very hard, but we also play hard too.
Throughout the year we also get together out of the lodge for fun outings, usually inviting our spouses, family members and friends. A recent example was a private tour of the Old North Church in Boston, MA. After an amazing tour of this beautiful historic building, members enjoyed a dinner in the North End.
Members of Celestial Lodge get to choose how much of their time they can dedicate to the lodge and can participate in any capacity. You get out of the lodge experience, what you put into it.
